PVC upcycling with supercritical CO2

PVC is one of the three most widely used plastics in the world, but so far, every attempt at reuse has been thwarted by difficult-to-remove impurities.

The aims of this JTF knowledge development project are to improve techniques and develop a circular business model that allows discarded PVC products to remain in the materials cycle. A cohesive package of solutions is being developed to recycle PVC, including the use of supercritical CO2, a ‘green’ solvent that easily removes additives.
