A circular product via a green process
Our material recycling technology constitutes a unique example delivering a circular product (PVC) via a green process. Contrary to simple mechanical recycling or the use of organic solvents (for example for selective dissolution), our approach relies on non-harmful chemicals and is thus characterized by a low carbon footprint.
Our technology
Our technology for PVC recycling relies on the use of a green solvent, namely supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2). The latter is unanimously considered as a “green” solvent and it just consists of CO2 above the critical temperature (Tc=33°C) and pressure (Pc=73 atm). In this state (see cartoon below), the molecules are still organized is a kind of liquid state, but display enough mobility to behave also as a gas. Indeed, scCO2 is characterized by a typical liquid density as well as gas-like diffusivity.
These characteristics (on top of chemical inertness and easy removal by depressurization), makes the
use of scCO2 for PVC recycling extremely attractive from an environmental point of view.
